YOUNG PLAYER INFLATION ADJUSTMENT ("YPIA")
The intent of this rule is to allow a manager to keep a young player at a relative bargain price (usually $15, the minimal cost) for at least one year. This is carried out by giving a manager the ability to keep a young player (not yet turned 27 on opening day) without applying inflation for one year. However, the YPIA tag may only be applied once to a player by anyone. For this reason, players who are ineligible to be tagged YPIA are:
2014 - Sale, Kipnis, Freeman, Posey, Goldschmidt
2013 - Strasburg, Heyward, McCutchen, Castro, Stanton
2012 - Price, C. Gonzalez, Hanson
2011 - Kershaw, Scherzer, Tulowitzki, J. Upton
2010 - Kemp, Gallardo, Mauer, F. Hernandez, Longoria
2009 - Kinsler, Markakis, Lincecum, B.J. Upton, Hamels, Braun, Ellsbury
2008 - Wright, H. Ramirez, Hart, Fielder, Reyes
